Pinus thunbergii ‘Kyokko yatsabusa’ is a Japanese black pine that is known for its rough, cork bark that it develops with age. ‘Kyokko yatsabusa’ has medium green needles with medium length similar to many other Japanese black pine cultivars. ‘Kyokko yatsabusa’ has a dwarf-like growth habit that does not get very tall. In fact, much of ‘Kyokko yatsabusa’s growth is lateral. Due to its dwarf stature and attractive, rough bark ‘Kyokko yatsabusa’ is most commonly used as a bonsai plant and is highly sought after by bonsai enthusiasts.
